Sprouts is based out of Arizona and specializing in farm fresh produce, although they offer an extensive selection of other organic and natural foods. Tucked into a shopping plaza on N Alma School Road (map), Indus Village is an Indian and Pakistani restaurant that features a buffet and a full menu. Reviewers noted this place for their homemade yogurt (made fresh daily), the goat and lamb dishes, and the Naan. Although some said the chairs were not very comfortable, it has been noted that the chairs actually came from Pakistan. Sometimes, Indus Village features music on the weekends. (Menu) 480-284-6011

Latitude Eight Thai Grill Resturant

Latitude Eight Thai Grill is one of the hottest restaurants in downtown Chandler (map). As suggested by the name, Latitude serves Thai food and reviewers especially liked the Spicy Thai Lettuce Wraps, Springs Rolls and Musaman Short Ribs. Cyclo Resturant

Cyclo is a Vietnamese place located on Chandler Blvd (map) that has been called a “funky, fashionable café,” by Phoenix New Times. The intimate atmosphere is accentuated by owner Justin Duong, who receives more good reviews that her amazing menu does. Some of the most reviewed dishes are the Pho Bo Vien and the Banh Xeo. Foundations

Chandler was founded at the turn of the twentieth century by Dr. Alexander John Chandler, a Canadian veterinarian who opened the San Marcos Hotel in 1913. He designed the downtown area with help of architects and city planners to be centered on the central park. The San Marcos hotel, now a successful conference center and golf resort, is still in business today.

A several million dollar renovation is making Arizona Avenue a more pedestrian-friendly place to be by adding lanes for bicycles and ensuring crosswalk space. Chandler’s history began when Dr. Alexander John Chandler arrived in 1891. Dr Chandler was the first veterinary surgeon appointed to the region By 1911 Dr. Chandler had accumulated nearly 18,000 acres south of Mesa. In 1911, when the Roosevelt Dam was completed each landowner was restricted to irrigating only 160 acres. In order to have irrigation available, Dr. Chandler was forced to subdivide his 18,000-acre ranch. He hired a city planner and an architect to design a planned community with spacious lots, wide boulevards and a town green unique to the Southwest.

The town of Chandler was formed in 1912. Growth was slow at first, but Dr. Chandler looked toward the future, knowing that the town needed to become a destination in order to attract tourists who might later become residents. So, in the middle of an alfalfa field, construction started on the San Marcos Hotel, the area’s first luxury resort. Upon its completion, wealthy guests from around the country flocked to the small town just south of Phoenix, looking for a winter getaway.

The city of Chandler transformed itself from a small farming community into a “High-Tech Oasis of the Silicon Desert” (the city slogan), within the space of a few years. It’s one of the fastest growing communities in the nation. A growing cultural life which includes public art and the performing arts, numerous museums, parks and recreation, and libraries have contributed to Chandler’s appealing lifestyle.

Chandler still pays tribute to the days it consisted of raising cattle, sheep and ostriches by celebrating an annual Ostrich Festival every March. There are a lot of recreational and education activities to enjoy in Chandler. Residents enjoy the different aquatic programs and the center for the arts, which has rotating 180° stages and moving walls so that three performances can be executed simultaneously.
